Pride began in June 1970 as a protest against police brutality, with a Gay Liberation March that marked the first anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Thousands of LBGTQ people took to the streets to demand their civil rights. From those first marches, decades of activism followed, due in large part to the actions of Black and transgender activists. Thanks to our LGBTQ ancestors, we've come a long way. But the struggle continues. This Pride month (and every month), we're working toward a future where every member of the LGBTQ community can live as they are, without fear, without discrimination, and with equal rights.
We're raising funds for The Trevor Project, an organization that works to end suicide among LGBTQ youth, and we're hoping you can help make our donation a little bigger! Read on for all the details about the one-of-a-kind tote bag we're raffling off to raise money for this great cause.
This hand-painted tote bag will be raffled off
We made a one-of-a-kind Black Cypress tote bag painted with the colors of the Pride flag, and we're going to give it away in a raffle! This one-of-a-kind tote is hand-painted with paints specifically formulated for use on full-grain leather. Each stripe was painted by hand, and then sealed with a topcoat that protects it against wear and tear. Buy a $10 raffle ticket, and you'll be entered to win this beautiful bag. (Every ticket you buy is an additional entry, and there's no limit on the number of tickets you can buy!) 100% of the proceeds – i.e., every single dollar that you spend on raffle tickets – will go to The Trevor Project.
We're donating 100% of proceeds to The Trevor Project
Your donation will help fund suicide prevention and crisis intervention services for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people. The Trevor Project estimates that more than 1.8 million LGBTQ young people seriously consider suicide each year in the U.S. and could benefit from Trevor's support. Trained counselors connect with youth via phone, text, and chat 24/7, 365 days a year, and have handled more than 200,000 calls, chats, and texts in the past year. We hope you'll join us in showing your support, celebrating LGBTQ pride, and helping The Trevor Project save lives.
Tickets will be available through 11:59pm on July 15
Raffle tickets will be available to purchase until 11:59pm ET on July 15. A winner will be randomly chosen and notified on July 16. When you purchase a ticket, you won't receive a physical item, just an order confirmation sent to the email address you provide with your order. The raffle is open to entrants worldwide, and we're happy to cover the cost of shipping to wherever the winner lives. When a winner is drawn, we'll update this blog post with the winner's initials.
The proceeds of these heart charms will go to The Trevor Project, too
We're also making special-edition leather heart charms in the colors of the Pride flag, and we're donating the proceeds to The Trevor Project. Leather goods can't save the world. But we think it's a huge privilege that we get to spend our days making handmade leather goods for you, and we hope to do a little bit of good with that privilege.
